Hey Gig Harbor neighbors! May is here, and you know what that means – it's time to celebrate the amazing women in our lives: our moms! They've cheered us on, offered endless support, and probably know us better than we know ourselves. This Mother's Day, let's skip the generic gifts and make it a truly special day right here in our wonderful Gig Harbor. Let’s get right to it shall we?

Say it with Flowers (Local Blooms, Naturally!)

Nothing says "I love you" quite like a beautiful bouquet. Lucky for us, Gig Harbor is home to some fantastic local florists who pour their heart into creating stunning arrangements.

• Think Fresh & Local: Forget those mass-produced grocery store bunches. Head to Williams Flower Co., Local Whimsy, or the The Flower Garden to find talented Gig Harbor florists or pre-made bouquets with seasonal blooms for a bright gift that will warm her heart.

• Beyond the Bouquet: Consider a beautiful potted plant from a local nursery that Mom can enjoy for months to come. Orchids, succulents, or even a vibrant hanging basket can bring a touch of local beauty to her home. Rosedale Gardens on a beautiful day is the perfect place to go for these plant Moms! Hint: Maybe even bring her along so she can pick one.

• Gorgeous Art: Our town is FULL of talented artists and makers! Check out local boutiques and galleries for unique jewelry, handcrafted pottery, or beautiful textiles that Mom will absolutely love. 

• Pampering & Relaxation: Treat Mom to some well-deserved R&R with locally sourced bath products, luxurious candles with scents inspired by the Puget Sound, or a gift certificate for a relaxing treatment at a nearby spa.

• Gig Harbor Book Worm: For the book-loving Mom, a gift certificate to one of our local bookstores or even better..find her a book she can’t put down! 

• Treat Her to a Delicious Gig Harbor Meal or a Day Out (more on that below)

• Plan an Outing with Mom: A pre-planned day to shop at the Waterfront Market at Skansie Park on May 22nd- can be a lovely way to spend time together if you have scheduling conflicts on Mother’s Day! Get the date in the books and take Mom out for a day.

• Brunching with Mom: Start the day right with a delightful brunch at one of our charming local cafes or waterfront restaurants. Some offer special Mother's Day menus, so be sure to book a reservation soon. Table 47 has a Mother’s Day Brunch menu that is definitely worth checking out this year! Devoted Kiss and Netshed No.9 are always good options to wow Mom on her special day too. Susanne’s Bakery is currently taking orders for their decadent Strawberry whipped cream cake and have the CUTEST little pre-bagged flower cookies you’ll want to grab before they're all sold.

• Dinner with a View: Dine out with Mom, plan a memorable dinner at one of our many Gig Harbor restaurants with stunning views of the bay or with a mother’s day special! Here’s a few of our recommendations: Anthony’s, Morso, Tides Tavern, and Brix 25.  Grab a bite to go and eat while enjoying watching the boats/people at Skansie Park viewing deck together.

• Sweet Endings: Don't forget dessert! Pick up a delicious cake, pastries, or maybe you’ll get your hands on some Gig Harbor Candy Co. Chocolate or their Tiger Bark- if you know you know- to make the celebration even sweeter. Bonus! She might even share the treats with you.

Mother's Day Weekend Events  & Local Performances

• Local Makers Spring Market: Saturday, May 10th at the Gig Harbor Civic Center Green. Starts at 10:00 AM

• Mother’s Day Tea Party by PenMet Parks: Saturday, May 10th from 1:00 PM-3:00 PM at Sehmel Park. Create a picture frame for the special woman in your life and insert a picture with a polaroid picture here at the event. Tasty treats and tea will also be provided. $10 for each ticket. All ages are welcome.

Local Performances: 

• "Steel Magnolias" Southern Bridal Tea Party and Show: Sunday May 11th show starts at 2:00 PM at the Fox Island Community Center. Tickets are $35 which includes the Tea Party, and the show, Steel Magnolias. Ghostlight Performing Arts will host a Bridal Tea Party in honor of the character Shelby Eatonton from Steel Magnolias and her upcoming nuptials. Sweet tea, coffee, finger sandwiches, and pastries will be served. Price includes the tea party and ticket for the show. 

• Peninsula High School Presents Oliver! - May 9th & 10th, 14th -17th multiple showing times (see link for more details)

Waterfront Activities: 

• A relaxing walk along the waterfront, a gondola ride, or even a kayak rental can be a wonderful and relaxing way to enjoy Gig Harbor's beauty with Mom this Mother’s Day.

• Plan a picnic day at one of our beautiful beaches! Like Sunrise Beach then, think finger sandwiches, gourmet wraps or delish salads served in stylish, reusable containers (hellooo Target!). We'll have chilled sparkling cider or a refreshing infused water in pretty tumblers, alongside some mini quiches or artisanal cheeses with crusty bread- Met Market or Harbor Greens are great places for elegant charcuterie choices. Buy a couple tulips or or her favorite flowers and put them in a vase for a sweet touch. Then crack open some lovely Rosé to add some bubbly for an extra treat. Just a comfortable, delicious , and thoughtful way to celebrate Mom by the beach!
